Since graduating from the University of Canterbury in 2013, Stephen has developed a solid foundation in the automation and heavy engineering industries. Stephen is a self-motivated and proactive engineer. He is an excellent communicator with natural leadership skills.


I enjoy the challenges that engineering presents on a daily basis and developing solutions to solve those challenges or problems. It is great to work in an environment where I’m constantly learning and developing my skills. A lot of my experience lies in various areas of machine design including automated appliance lines, freezers and protein processing, and all the aspects of engineering that they involve. To be able to contribute my skills and knowledge to the design of equipment that operates not only in NZ but globally is pretty cool.

Project Experience

Scott Technology, Automated Oven Line


Automated Oven Line

Design and development of sheet metal U-Folder, Product Fixturing, and Loaders as part of a larger fully automated production line. Work involved taking an existing concept design all the way through to producing drawings for manufacture within a very tight timeframe. Working alongside the clients engineers and drawing on their knowledge of previous projects to produce a finished project.

Detailed design & manufacturing drawings of the roll form stations as part of an entire hot water cylinder line.

Scott MilkTech



Working alongside one of their senior designers in Dunedin to develop an existing concept for a robot end effector. The robot was tasked with pickup and placement of milking clusters for existing dairy sheds.


Scoping study and associated research of a moss factory on the West Coast of NZ. The study investigated how to improve process flow, factory layout, the ability to add automated machinery and cost reduction throughout the entire process from harvest to packing.

Cavotec Moormaster, 200kN Mooring Unit


200kN Mooring System

Detailed design of part of a vacuum mooring system for Cavotec Moormaster. Collaborating with the clients engineers as part of a larger to team to complete the already concepted design, including materials selection, FEA and manufacturing drawings.

Two Tower Plate Freezer

Detailed design, analysis and project management of a two tower 1600 carton plate freezer for LVP, Western Australia. Scope of work included load/unload conveyors, maintenance platforms and structural frame.
