What skills, attributes, and experience make you a great Caliber engineer?
- Management skills – My role as a project engineer helped my develop management skills like decision making, project planning, team leadership, resource management, and task delegation.
- Software skills – Proficient in using various CAD/CAM and CAE software and able easily learn any new ones if job on hand demands.
- Problem solving – During my studies and industrial experience, I have developed a knack for problem solving by quickly determining the source of problem and then finding a quick, efficient, and effective solution over it.
- Workshop Skills – Being exposed to general engineering and fabrication workshop, I have developed good understanding for manufacturing processes that I can integrate that into my thought process and designs.
How did you get into engineering?
Curious mind, interest in science and mathematics from early age drawn me towards engineering. Interest in mechanisms, design and how thing works lead me into choosing mechanical engineering.
Where / what did you study?
I have completed B.E in Mechanical Engineering from Shivaji University, India. Then went on to complete MSc in Mechanical Engineering from Staffordshire University, UK.
What do you enjoy most about mechanical engineering?
The fact that mechanical engineering covers a wide scope of area and industry, it never gets boring. Always something new to learn.
What engineering experience did you have before you came to Caliber?
I have had about 2 yrs. experience working as a project engineer for a manufacturing/fabrication company which fabricated mechanical seal support systems (API plans), lube oil systems and gas lines for oil and gas. After that worked as design/project engineer for Gisborne Engineering, a general engineering company providing agricultural, forestry and heavy fabrication services along with sheet metal design and fabrication, profile cutting and machining.
What makes working for Caliber different from the other engineering companies you’ve worked for?
Opportunity of working on secondments for different companies in variety of industries giving the exposure to range of projects and experiences.
Is there a particular project that’s been a highlight of your career?
Worked on few different projects and designs, but nothing yet that I consider a highlight of my career.
What would your dream project be?
A product design involving major R&D, design and analysis, prototyping and seeing the final product in market.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
Spending time with my family, gaming, photography and travelling.
