Ara have started an Engineering Systems Analysis course, with a focus on motorsport.
Earlier in the year, Caliber Director Jonathan Prince was lucky enough to be invited to the suspension setup session. They had two Formula Fords from different years onsite. Glen Hayward led the session and shared his knowledge gained from years of local and international motorsport experience.
A second session was held out on the track, where the setup of a Formula Ford and JP’s Toyota Levin were studied. With guidance from Glenn, the students analysed the effect that laps around the track had on the Levin’s suspension and tyres. They’d discuss the car’s performance, make specific changes, do more laps, then retest.
JP took students for rides around the track. For many, this was their first time in a race car. He explained the lines he was driving, brake points, turn in points, etc.
As a Company, we jump at the opportunity to support the next generation of engineers coming through our tertiary facilities. This new Ara course is a great example of the practical hands-on learning that is happening these days. JP would like to thank Graeme Harris, Senior Lecturer for the Engineering School for the invitation, and Glenn Hayward for his time and incredible insight into vehicle setup and response.
