CASE STUDY | June365
Fisher & Paykel Technologies is a division of Fisher & Paykel Appliances. Their main business is developing innovative motor solutions for the other Haier Group divisions and for external clients. These motors are typically used in front or top loading washing machines and rangehoods.
THE CHALLENGE
Fisher & Paykel Technologies (FPT) had identified an opportunity to use their motor design and control IP in a fitness product where the motors provided the dynamic resistance.
FPT needed additional mechanical engineering design resource, so they reached out to Caliber to provide mechanical engineering input to their multi-disciplinary project team.
THE RESULT
Many of our Caliber Design engineers have either been employed by Fisher & Paykel or been seconded to them during their employment at Caliber. This means that we know their systems and processes very well.
For this project, this knowledge and experience was invaluable. The Caliber engineers who were seconded onto the June365 project had the support of the entire Caliber Network and FPT had the benefit of that foundational knowledge. This enabled the seconded engineers to get up to speed quickly and deliver sound, innovative mechanical engineering solutions to the challenges that arose throughout the product design process. They worked with the various stakeholders to refine an initial specification with conflicting requirements into one that was technically feasible, while delivering on as many as possible of the original project goals.
Throughout the project, Caliber was able to scale the resource between two and four engineers as the project requirements changed.
The final result delivered a complete design for marketing demonstration units which will be used to sell the complete product offering and to demonstrate the underpinning technology.
