CASE STUDY | Rock Trap
Wyma Solutions is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of post-harvest vegetable and fruit handling equipment. Christchurch-based, they have production facilities on two continents and machinery operating in more than 50 countries.
THE CHALLENGE
Wyma were asked by a customer in Western Australia to provide a machine capable of separating out potatoes from rocks.
They required it to operate at a raw material rate of 50-tonne per hour and dispose of up to 30-tonnes of rocks per hour.
The machine would be fed by the customer’s existing four tonne bin-tipper.
THE SOLUTION
A Caliber engineer worked from a concept supplied by Wyma, where the potatoes were floated out one direction, and the rocks disposed of by a conveyor going the other direction.
The engineer designed the required machine, calculating all of the requirements and delivering drawings for manufacture.
The rock trap is currently in use on-site, reliably sorting 12 hours a day during harvest.
