What skills, attributes, and experience make you a great Caliber engineer?

I am a massive believer in becoming an all rounder in all aspects of life, whether its engineering, business, sports or personal goals. It is from this constant drive to introduce variety and going through adversity which has allowed me to gain massive experience in a short time frame and develop a variety of skillset not only as an engineer but also as a competent individual.

I personally believe having a can-do attitude, an open mind paired with ambition and execution has contributed massively to my substantial growth as an engineer and as an individual.

How did you get into engineering?

Engineering was a clear career choice for me from a very young age. I grew up watching my dad fixing things around the house to watching a lot of Discovery Channel/engineering shows and always found disassembling and analysing all kinds of machines/mechanisms extremely intriguing.

Where / what did you study?

I studied Mechanical Engineering and graduated with a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

What do you enjoy most about mechanical engineering?

I find the vastness of the field of mechanical engineering extremely inspiring, knowing that I can go into a completely unfamiliar environment and leave a positive mark.

I enjoy the entire design process from concept development, analysis, detailed design, manufacturing and technical reports. I find triumphing over challenging problems extremely rewarding. Seeing your design/creation in reality working as intended is truly one of the most satisfying experiences ever.

What engineering experience did you have before you came to Caliber?

Prior to Caliber, I established a background in the industrial, aerospace and the dairy industry. I designed and substantiated a new Sliding Canopy for a Legacy Aircraft; New CIP system & multiple process systems along with structural and consultancy for the dairy industry.

What makes working for Caliber different from the other engineering companies you’ve worked for?

Caliber is an awesome company with a ton of variety in work, you are always on your toes as to what’s next and this type of business model enables engineers to gain a ton of experience very quickly as you are getting exposure to different industries all the time. The Caliber hive mind is a superpower, it allows you to tap into the wealth of knowledge your fellow colleagues have at any time.

Is there a particular project that’s been a highlight of your career?

In all honesty, all the projects have been a highlight as I have been lucky enough to be the only engineer assigned to work on them due to the trust that previous companies had and Caliber has in me. Working as a team is awesome, but there is nothing like knowing that you designed something all by yourself from scratch. So, the list would include all my projects stated in my bio.

What would your dream project be?

My dream project at this stage would be working as a Project Manager/Engineer capacity and overseeing a large-scale project with a massive footprint or a contribution in the space industry working for the likes of Rocket labs.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

Outside of work you will find me either mountain biking, tinkering with home projects or filming beautiful landscapes with my drone.
