What skills, attributes, and experience make you a great Caliber engineer?

Growth Mindset: I thrive on challenges and eagerly dive into new projects to understand clients’ systems and tackle their issues head-on. I am perpetually unsatisfied with the status quo, consistently seeking ways to enhance speed and efficiency.

Attentive Listening: My ability to attentively listen to various stakeholders’ perspectives enables me to craft solutions that align with their requirements. Engaging in discussions with fellow employees within the client’s company often provides valuable insights for problem-solving.

How did you get into engineering?

My admiration for my father, an accomplished excavator technician renowned for his exceptional problem-solving skills, ignited my passion for engineering. I pursued a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Auckland to become a proficient problem solver like him. Along this path, I engaged in internships and assumed the role of Assistant Site Manager at Smith and Loveless NZ Ltd, gaining hands-on experience in the industry. Post-graduation, my journey continued at Moda Systems NZ before finding my place with the Caliber team.

Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering in the University of Auckland (Honours)

What do you enjoy most about mechanical engineering?

My passion for mechanical engineering stems from the joy of problem-solving, the thrill of continuous learning, and the fascination with the interconnectedness of communication and systems in producing outcomes.

What engineering experience did you have before you came to Caliber?

During my university years, I held roles as an Assistant Site Manager at Smith and Loveless NZ and worked as a factory fabricator at WoodsGlass and Viking Ltd. Upon completing my studies, I was employed as a Mechanical Design Engineer at Moda Systems.

What makes working for Caliber different from the other engineering companies you’ve worked for?

I love being thrown into different companies and getting exposure on different types of problems. I also love Caliber’s transparency towards pay and policies for employees (e.g. you know what clients are being charged for, straight-forward KPI measurement and when can you expect a pay raise). The support from tech leads and other Caliber engineers are helpful when we are stuck.

Is there a particular project that’s been a highlight of your career?

Haven’t worked long enough…

What would your dream project be?

Would say  participating in the design and construction of monumental, cutting-edge projects, such as rocket building or contributing to endeavors like those undertaken by Tesla.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

During my free time, you’ll often find me at the temple, engaging in activities like gardening, event organization, teaching classes for children, and actively serving the community.
