Ash Klemke

MECHANICAL ENGINEER

Skills Overview

Originally from Australia, Ash has a background in mechanical design across a range of industries including industrial machinery, R&D, and aerospace. He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Monash University. Ash combines a sound base of technical knowledge, practical skills and a good head for problem solving to be an effective engineer in a broad range of work environments.

    • CAD DESIGN – Ash has experience using a range of CAD packages, whilst most proficient with SolidWorks and NX he has also used Creo, OnShape, Inventor and AutoCad. He has employed these skills across a range of industries from machine design to consumer product design and Aerospace, which has required him to be proficient in a broad range of features across these CAD packages. With a sound grasp of good modelling practices, Ash is able to efficiently construct and maintain stable, parametric assemblies to best support the design process.
    • CONCEPT DESIGN – Ash has experiencing driving early concept design for new system and products. Generating concepts and communicating them to relevant stakeholders.
    • DESIGN FOR MANUFACTURE – Ash has designed parts for variety of different manufacturing methods. These include machining, sheet metal, fabrication, injection moulding, and casting. He has gained this experience through his work across a range of industries. This gives Ash the tools to adapt to different workplaces and solve the design challenges that they present.
    • DRAFTING – Ash is able to produce high quality engineering drawings, he has experience preparing drawings in a variety of styles and industries. From small intricate machined parts to large weldments and assemblies. Having previously employed as a draftsman whilst he was studying Ash has extensive drafting experience and applies good basic principles to produce a high quality of across different software packages and workplaces.
    • ASSEMBLY, TESTING & MAINTENANCE – In addition generating designs, Ash also has experience working hands-on with mechanical systems. As part of previous roles he has attended site as a service technician as well as conduct acceptance testing prior to commissioning machines. In addition to the conducting on-the-fly testing to validate designs, Ash has a good base of hands-on skills that have informed his design philosophy.
    • FEA – Ash has experience carrying out both thermal and structural FEA in order drive design.

    PERSONAL STATEMENT

The big appeal of engineering for me has always been problem solving. Finding elegant solutions to complex problems is both extremely engaging and rewarding, it’s what first attracted me to the profession and what keeps me coming back.

My background lies in machine design and maintenance in the manufacturing industry. Where I have gained experience in mechanical design using a variety of manufacturing methods, 3D CAD modelling, testing, quality control, and maintenance. I am practically minded, versatile and quickly able to adapt to new situations and environments.

I find myself most excited about a project when I can tackle a design challenge that doesn’t have a clear and obvious solution, allowing me to leverage my creativity to achieve the best outcome. Whether that be coming up with something new or refining and existing design to make incremental improvements.

    Project Experience

    AEROSPACE UMBILICAL DESIGN

Design of the ground-side mechanical system to supply services to a vehicle. Worked the design from requirements, through early concept to detailed design and manufacturing. Design tasks included CAD design, FEA and structural calculations, presentation for peer review, documentation.

“Ash’s ability to jump into the project and explore the design space with limited, vague and often conflicting requirements has been a real point of value for me and something that is often key to thriving in our work environment.

Ash has done a very thorough job of documenting in clear detail the work that he has done on the project. His inclusions are concise and thoughtful to the particular way we do things. The standard he has set here is something most across my team should aspire to.”

    Client

    Aerospace Umbilical Design Project

ANALYSIS FOR HIGH-TEMPERATURE PROCESS EQUIPMENT DESIGN

Conducted analysis and design of a high temperature piece of process equipment, with non-linear combined thermal and structural FEA driving design changes. The FEA included the use of conduction, convection and radiation solvers as well as complex geometry and contact. 2D axisymmetric and 3D quarter/cyclic symmetry models were also used to reduce run-times. Through this project, the client was able to take learnings from the work to apply to future projects.

    FISHER & PAYKEL HEALTHCARE

    June365

Provided the mechanical engineering solutions to support FPT in the development of their new fitness product. The result is a smaller, lighter, more intelligent product that is technically feasible to manufacture and is being used for demonstration purposes. CASE STUDY

    ROBOTIC TRANSACTIONAL PARALLEL MANIPULATOR

    Design

Designed structural and drive systems for a novel parallel robotic manipulator. Carried out engineering calculations to select actuators and size the system so it met performance and structural requirements. Produced a 3D CAD model of the manipulator and a complete design package. Liaised with suppliers to oversee the manufacture of parts and built a prototype.

    EX-RATED HOT WASH MACHINE

    Design, Assembly & Testing

Was a part of a project to deliver a hot-wash for an existing customer to serve as an upgrade to one they already had. It included a fabricated stainless body and EX rated components as the client required intrinsically safe electrical components. Was involved in the adaptation of an existing design to meet client specification, produced design data, and was heavily involved in the assembly and testing phases of the project.

    SANDBLASTING MACHINE

    Design & Build

Worked on the design and build of a sandblasting machine to be used on a hazardous site. Developed a fully parametric CAD model of the machine, sourced key components and produced manufacturing data. worked on the design of a pneumatic control system utilising safety rated components. Also participated in the assembly and testing of the machine.

Ø3M CAR TABLE SHOT BLAST MACHINE

    Design, Component Selection, Risk Assessment

Worked on the design of a large shot blast machine to process castings in a foundry. Developed parametric 3D CAD models, sourced components from suppliers. Was also involved in the development of the risk assessment and the design of a wide range of systems within the machine. Also worked to produce detailed drawings and oversee the release of design data for manufacturing.

    GOOD BUGGER AWARD

    November 2025

Ash was awarded the Good Bugger Award for his outstanding commitment, generosity, and contribution to the team. Over the past four months, Ash has been incredibly generous with his time and expertise in NX and CAD, supporting others while managing a demanding remote secondment himself. He also developed the original NX training guide for engineers who are seconded to one of our key clients. This a resource now so valuable that the client has dubbed it part of their “Academy”. This is on top of a heavy workload on a remote secondment. Legend!
