What skills, attributes, and experience make you a great Caliber engineer?
I have a base of experience in design across a range of manufacturing methods and industries. I’m pretty adaptable, I tackle problems with and open mind and am always willing to learn something new. This helps me get to speed quickly in my secondments and provide value to our clients.
How did you get into engineering?
I’ve always enjoyed problem solving and gravitated towards maths and science subjects at school, Engineering seemed like the natural career choice.
Where / what did you study?
I studied Mechanical Engineering at Monash University
What do you enjoy most about mechanical engineering?
The best part of the job is definitely seeing something you’ve designed go from a design on screen to the real world.
What engineering experience did you have before you came to Caliber?
After graduating from university, I worked for a company in Melbourne designing, maintaining and building blast machinery for three years.
What makes working for Caliber different from the other engineering companies you’ve worked for?
The most unique part of working for Caliber is the variety, you get exposed to a wide range of industries and work environments. It certainly has its challenges but it’s a great way to build a broad base of experience and work out what field suits you best.
Is there a particular project that’s been a highlight of your career?
Having the opportunity to move to New Zealand has been a highlight, it’s exciting to be in a global profession that could take me anywhere in the world.
What would your dream project be?
My dream project would involve lots of design and ‘outside the box’ thinking. I enjoy projects with an element of hands-on work for things like testing and commissioning. I’d also like to work in a field that I care about on a project with a goal that I can get behind.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I try and spend as much time outside as possible. I spend as much time running, climbing, hiking and surfing as I can.
