CASE STUDY | Agovor

Agovor is Auckland-based robotics company. They are pioneers in precision autonomous agriculture, with a flagship product called Govor, a robotic towing machine. Designed to augment human efforts, Govor excels at repetitive and labour-intensive tasks.

THE CHALLENGE

Agovor is a start up with big ambitions. Already a leader in precision agriculture technology, they identified opportunities to improve their product’s functionality and operational efficiency.

They wanted to streamline the Govor’s manufacturing and assembly processes to reduce assembly time. This would give their team more time to focus on client engagement and support.

Additionally, Agovor aimed to improve the reliability and effectiveness of the product by reducing the part count of their spray trailer, boosting operational efficiency, lowering production costs, and minimising maintenance.

THE SOLUTION

Agovor seconded a Caliber engineer to help them with the product enhancements.

Through collaborative efforts, the Govor design was refined and they achieved a considerable reduction in assembly time per unit. This key improvement frees up the Agovor team to spend more time supporting and engaging with clients.

The design enhancements to the spray trailer attachment resulted in a streamlined, more efficient product. By reducing the part count and simplifying its design, production costs and maintenance needs were reduced, enhancing the reliability and effectiveness of the spray trailer.

Govor Design Refinements

This involved a comprehensive design effort to improve the manufacturability, assembly, and performance of the Govor. The scope of work included a thorough review and cleanup of the existing CAD design to remove unnecessary parts and simplify the assembly structure. Sheet metal parts were refined to reduce assembly difficulties and improve overall product integrity. Studs and inserts were added to reduce fastener count, simplify assembly, and enhance product reliability. We collaborated with the client to select new off-the-shelf components that future-proof the design and minimise risk of obsolescence. We worked closely with manufacturers to ensure efficient and cost-effective manufacturing.

Smart Trailer Attachment Improvements

The goal of this project was to improve the structure and functionality of the smart trailer attachment. The redesign simplified manufacture, resulting in improved production efficiency and cost savings. Strategic reworking enabled a modular design, providing a scalable and adaptable solution for developing future product offerings on the same base structure. Integration of actuators enhanced the product’s autonomous capabilities, allowing for increased precision and control. Close collaboration with manufacturers ensured an efficient production process, minimising potential bottlenecks and maximising output. Comprehensive manufacturing drawings and files were produced, providing a clear and detailed guide for production and future development.

We had a great experience working with Aaron and the team. The real benefit was having Aaron in our office, reducing development time.
