CASE STUDY | High Speed Robotic Appliance Drum Manufacturing Line
Facteon are a world leader in design and build of custom machinery and automation. Formerly known as Fisher & Paykel Production Machinery (PML), they are international specialists in factory solutions, smart manufacturing and Industrial IoT (IIoT) technologies and service the automotive, home appliance, medical, and food & beverage industries.
THE CHALLENGE
Facteon had successfully completed several appliance drumlines in the past, however the new high speed robotic appliance drum manufacturing line, with product destined for a new geographic market, presented some new challenges.
The drum product specified large expansion, extreme attention to quality detail, and a short development period.
THE SOLUTION
- The project was completed within targets and, during onsite commissioning, met the design targets for cycle time and quality.
- Caliber’s engineers designed several machines in the drumline: spider screw, measure station, lift and rotate, spider pierce, expander, and decoration press.
- Through being adaptive and being able to offer multiple options in a short period of time, the team were able to provide solutions with fewer design iterations. This helped minimise budget and time creep.
- Working onsite, as part of Facteon’s Design Team, meant that learnings were easily shared.
- Caliber developed a strong relationship with Facteon. Our engineers continue to provide design support across multiple automated manufacturing line projects at Facteon.
