CASE STUDY
Leilac | Cement Decarbonisation Equipment
Leilac engaged Caliber to provide specialist mechanical engineering support on its cement decarbonisation programme. Facing the challenge of developing novel high-temperature equipment under tight timelines, Leilac needed extra capability to complement its global project teams. Caliber engineers were brought in to improve and develop key designs, evaluate feasibility of new approaches, and prepare detailed documentation for vendor engagement. By embedding seamlessly with Leilac’s process, combustion, and controls engineers across multiple international projects, we helped accelerate the design and delivery of technology central to decarbonising cement and lime production.

HOW WE DELIVERED
Caliber engineers contributed across multiple projects, from pilot-scale equipment through to large multi-unit systems.
Our focus was on reliability, safety, and scalability. We supported design improvements to enhance performance under extreme operating conditions, introduced new features to improve monitoring and resilience, and developed rapid design solutions that enabled critical restarts within tight timeframes.
As projects grew in scale and complexity, Caliber’s role expanded. We prepared scope-of-work and specification documents to support vendor engagement, evaluated alternative design approaches, and worked alongside international teams on key process equipment and supporting structures. Feasibility studies enabled project pivots and informed investment decisions, ensuring each project stage could move forward with confidence.
This required deep collaboration across disciplines and exposure to specialised, high-temperature equipment rarely encountered elsewhere. By quickly building capability in advanced design tools and analysis methods, our engineers were able to integrate seamlessly with global teams and accelerate delivery of pioneering decarbonisation technology.
Nathan is highly diligent and has a real ability to work with limited inputs and still find a path forward—something that’s especially important in Leilac’s context. He asks the right questions, knows how far to progress under uncertainty, and when to get clarity nailed down. The quality of his work is exceptional; any comment or markup only ever needs to be made once and it’s addressed forever.
