CASE STUDY | Dust Extraction System
Vortex Engineering is a mechanical engineering company that specialises in the design, manufacture, installation and servicing of air pollution control systems, fume and dust extraction systems, and material handling solutions. They also design air conveyor systems and offer general engineering design and manufacture services.
THE CHALLENGE
Vortex won a large scope of work, designing a full dust extraction system for a gold mine in the Middle East. Tight time frames and a shortage of in-house resources led to Vortex urgently requiring assistance in the creation of the manufacturing drawings package for their client.
THE SOLUTION
Within a day of the request, a Caliber Engineer with the relevant skills was on the Vortex premises assisting in the draughting of fabrication drawings to send to the client. This enabled Vortex to compile their deliverables much faster and ensure that the quality of the deliverables met their usual high standard, despite the demanding time frame.
Using the Caliber internal technical knowledge database, the Caliber engineer was able to supply Vortex with 3D CAD macros that sped up the conversion of the drawings to the file format demanded by the client which again saved Vortex time and money.
Additionally, Caliber was able to draw on the experience of the full Caliber Design team to make suggestions to the Vortex team to further improve speed and efficiency during the design and draughting process.
As a result of the secondment, Vortex were able to advance the completion of the project without compromising the other projects their inhouse team were working on.
As well as providing resource and making process improvements through the use of macros, Caliber supplied some great renders of the dust extraction system. These are real-world looking images, generated from the engineering drawings. Vortex can use to show the client and promote their capabilities.
