CASE STUDY | Fertiliser Spreader
Based in Otorohanga in the Waikato, Giltrap design and manufacture agricultural machinery. Giltrap’s forage wagons, fertiliser spreaders, and tractor attachments are used on farms around New Zealand and worldwide.
THE CHALLENGE
Giltrap were considering improvements to the design of a next-generation fertiliser spreader. They were looking at a stylish, distinctive design that featured external plastic panels that would differentiate the product in the marketplace. A design of this kind required experience with plastic parts, which was new for Giltrap.
THE SOLUTION
Caliber’s engagement in the project was flexible. They were pulled into the project at multiple stages.
Our engineer contributed to the initial concept development of the fertiliser spreader, detailing multiple industrial design concepts of the spreader panels.
Later in the project, Caliber coordinated design for manufacture activity with an external moulding supplier to ensure the manufacturability of the panels while maintaining their distinctive look.
Caliber provided industrial design concepts that strongly differentiated the fertiliser spreader from its competition and provide a commercial advantage.
By working alongside the manufacturer, Caliber was able to deliver on manufacturability as well as aesthetics.
Caliber met estimated budgets and timeframes for each stage of the project.
