CSC refurbishment
Upgrade acetylene plant

Caliber Design has supported BOC across multiple major projects, delivering critical infrastructure upgrades, refurbishments, and plant improvements at hazardous and high-demand sites. From large-scale refurbishments to targeted system upgrades, Caliber provided embedded project engineering expertise to manage scope, safety, and stakeholder alignment while maintaining live operations and compliance across all works.

KEY TASKS

  • Development of detailed project scopes and CAPEX proposals
  • Coordination of asbestos removal, civil works, and structural upgrades
  • Mechanical and electrical design for pressure vessels and pipework
  • Procurement and vendor management for specialised equipment
  • Hazard studies (HAZOP) and risk assessments
  • Oversight of installation, commissioning, and compliance activities
  • Stakeholder and contractor coordination across multiple projects

    HOW WE DELIVERED

Our engineers acted as BOC’s on-site representatives, managing both technical and logistical challenges across several capital projects.

For the $4M CSC refurbishment, we oversaw asbestos removal, roof replacement, HVAC and electrical upgrades, structural strengthening, and fire engineering improvements while coordinating a team of nine consultants. Strong safety and compliance systems ensured the site remained operational throughout construction.

Across BOC’s hazardous facilities, we supported infrastructure upgrades such as fire, IT, and security system modernisation. Work was sequenced to maintain continuity of essential systems, with critical cutovers scheduled at night or during weekends. When unexpected subsurface obstacles were discovered during switchboard trenching, Caliber’s engineers implemented design adjustments and mechanical protection within contingency budgets, keeping the project under cost and on schedule.

We also delivered targeted plant improvements, including a new 300Bar nitrogen filling bay integrated with existing operations and a $500K upgrade of the acetylene plant using modular skids to minimise downtime. Additional projects included multi-site installation of cryogenic pressure vessels and associated pipework, supporting applications from hospitals to breweries.

Across all workstreams, Caliber applied disciplined cost control, clear contractor coordination, and detailed risk management to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of BOC’s critical infrastructure projects.

The engineers from Caliber have done a very good job managing multiple projects, often outside the mechanical space. They’re resilient, good communicators, and keep things moving. With strong attention to detail, sound judgement, and a professional, collaborative approach, they’ve represented Caliber highly and made a real difference to our projects.
