CASE STUDY | Smoke Generator Renders

Founded in 2011, Smokai’s mission is to redefine the art of smoking foods by developing awesome products that make it easier to smoke. Their main products are their smoke generators. These have been designed to provide delicious smoked flavours though providing a consistent, controllable volume of quality of cool natural wood fired smoke to the food.

THE CHALLENGE

As part of their marketing effort to overhaul their website, Smokai needed renders of new and existing products to display on their online store.

These renders would be used to showcase their products in isolation as well as in a variety of “in scene” environments, to demonstrate the aesthetic appeal of the design and to provide potential customers as much information as possible of their size, features, and application.

Smokai was also in the process of revising its manufacturing process, and was in need of mechanical engineering support.

THE SOLUTION

Our Caliber engineer worked collaboratively with Smokai during the rendering process, building an understanding of the desired outcomes and iterating through incremental improvements to arrive at the final rendered products. By providing transparency and involving the client from end-to-end, it was ensured that client expectations were both well understood and met.

During the initial stages of the project, it was discovered that Smokai’s internal products and models didn’t all follow the same naming convention, which had led to some confusion and mix ups. Caliber approached Smokai with a plan to standardise part naming and bring existing files up to the new standard. As Smokai was in the process updating their manufacturing process, it was agreed that this was the perfect chance to overhaul its internal system and move forward following best practices.

Caliber delivered high quality sets of renders that showcase the aesthetic appeal and functionality of Smokai’s products for use in marketing material.

As part of the process, Caliber were able to support Smokai in updating some internal processes, which will result in a more efficient manufacturing process.
