What skills, attributes, and experience make you a great Caliber engineer?

Beyond the technical base knowledge every engineer needs to have, to be a successful Caliber engineer you need to be flexible. I’m able to adapt quickly and easily to ever changing circumstances. Coming from maintenance, having hands-on experience maintaining and repair machinery helps me integrate that knowledge into the design.

How did you get into engineering?

Like a lot of engineers, fixing stuff with my father. Pulling things apart to understand how they worked and then putting them back together. It is my opinion that studying doesn’t make you an engineer, you are simply born that way. Studying the career gives you more tools to work with and understand why things work in a certain way.

Where / what did you study?

I studied Mechanical engineering in Argentina. The University I graduated from leant heavily towards the engineering needs of the province I grew up in. The career focused primarily on design of heavy equipment for the Citrus, Sugar, Soy and Energy production industries.

What do you enjoy most about mechanical engineering?

Simply put: the ability to CREATE. It’s almost like a superpower to me to have the ability to THINK about something and have the tools and knowledge to make it a REAL THING.

What engineering experience did you have before you came to Caliber?

I’ve worked mostly as a maintenance engineering in industrial environments, installing, repairing and servicing equipment.
Hands on experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, electric, and mechanical elements.
Also worked as a designer/ drafter as a side job for small clients.

What makes working for Caliber different from the other engineering companies you’ve worked for?

What’s amazing about Caliber is the supportive community of engineers you get to work with. I’ve always found an answer or help with the technical complications through the Caliber network of engineers. Also, the great variety of work you get to experience makes for an enjoyable challenge.

Is there a particular project that’s been a highlight of your career?

Not yet but I have a very good eye for the small details, a lot of the projects I’ve been involved with required me to take someone else’s design from 90% to competition.

What would your dream project be?

My dream role in a project would be something like a project engineer, where I have some input into design doing CAD, but also leading people on the workshop. Procure materials and parts. Keep track of planning and project progress.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?

First and foremost, I love spending time with my family.

Secondly, I’m starting to build my first home with my own hands. I have a home workshop with a mill, a lathe, welder and cutting equipment. I’m also rebuilding a small CNC mill.

I also enjoy sim racing and other videogames on rainy days.
