How did you get into engineering?
From a young age I was pulling things apart to see how they worked and if it was broken what caused it to break. This progressed through to making improvements on existing designs then eventually creating my own designs.
What do you enjoy most about mechanical engineering?
The challenge of creating new design or improving an existing design.
Where / what did you study?
I completed pre-trade Automotive Engineering at Waikato Polytechnic and I studied Materials and Process engineering at Waikato University.
What engineering experience did you have before you came to Caliber?
I have over 20 years of engineering experience mostly in blank sheet machine and process design. I have worked with pneumatics, conveying, servo systems, pick and place robotics, machine vision, bearing selection, 6 axis robotics, sensor selection, product detection, product singulation, product orientation, structural design, finite element analysis, concrete mold design and lots of design for wet hygienic wash down environments. I also have workshop experience with the ability to help manufacture, assemble and commission.
Why did you want to work at Caliber?
Caliber offered an opportunity to work on many different projects in a variety of different industries.
What makes working for Caliber different from the other engineering companies you’ve worked for?
The variety of work and the massive network of knowledge available to every engineer.
Is there a particular project that’s been a highlight of your career?
My highlight would be designing a tool for a robot to bone Beef sides.
What does your dream project involve?
Any form of machine design.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not working?
I enjoy spending time with family and time in the shed tinkering.
