PERSONAL STATEMENT
I chose mechanical design engineering as it involves creating and designing new products and systems from scratch or improving an existing product/system, which requires creativity and imagination. This can be a fulfilling and enjoyable aspect of the job, as engineers get to use their ingenuity to come up with innovative solutions to problems. The pleasure of watching your design work in real life is the best form of self-motivation that keeps pushing you towards progress.
I have significant experience developing and manufacturing conveying systems. I have extensive knowledge and experience in food processing and packaging equipment as well as developing SPMs for industrial automation. At Caliber I’m excited to work with a great team across the industry and apply my skills and knowledge to design and develop solutions for some of the great companies in New Zealand.
Outside of engineering, I enjoy kayak fishing, skiing, alpine trekking, and spending quality time with family.
Project Experience

CANTERBURY SUSTAINMENT
LCM Void Project
Working as Project Engineer on the Canterbury Sustainment Project, I successfully delivered the LCM Void upgrade within the specified timeframe. This role involved both technical problem-solving and project management, including coordinating inspections, planning remedial actions, and overseeing installation to meet naval sustainment standards. A key achievement was conducting detailed fault-finding of potential leaks and root cause analysis of void pump function issues by running the systems online during sea trials. I identified and rectified issues such as blocked valves, which avoided the need for a full system replacement and generated significant cost savings. In parallel, I led the design and integration of upgrades, including the addition of drain plugs and quick-attack tags, which improved operational safety by strengthening Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) controls prior to launch. The project balanced timely delivery, technical rigour, and compliance, while ensuring the LCM remained reliable and operationally ready for service.
Steering Gear Control & Alarm Systems
Working as a Project Manager on the Canterbury Sustainment Project with Babcock Ltd NZ . In this role, I am heading the analysis, design, and installation of retrofit upgrades for obsolete systems on HMNZS Canterbury. This encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities, including identifying root causes of issues, exploring potential solutions, conducting design work, coordinating installations, and ensuring the attainment of class certification.
Lipstronic Systems
In this role, I am heading the analysis, design, and installation of retrofit upgrades for lipstronic systems on HMNZS Canterbury. This encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities, including identifying root causes of issues, exploring potential solutions, conducting design work, coordinating installations, and ensuring the attainment of class certification.

BBC TECH (TOMRA FRESH FOOD)
CURO 8-Head Filling System for Blueberries
The CURO-8 innovative 8-head filling system is fast and accurate and capable of consistently packing product at speeds of up to 120 clamshells per minute. This System was designed to cater mostly for r for the low-cost high volume market.

The Operating System of the Home
During my six-month secondment at BASIS NZ, I actively contributed to the development of “The Operating System of the Home.” My primary responsibilities centered around product design and development, with a strong focus on 3D modeling, prototyping, 3D printing, and vendor development. I played a key role in creating intricate 3D models, which were instrumental in shaping the physical aspects of the project. These models were then used for prototyping, allowing us to test and refine various design iterations. Additionally, I actively engaged in vendor development, establishing crucial partnerships to source the necessary components for our project. One of my notable contributions was crafting in-house test setups tailored for field testing, enabling us to assess the project’s functionality and performance in real-world conditions. Throughout this experience, I gained invaluable insights into the intricacies of product development, rapid prototyping, and the importance of robust vendor relationships, which are pivotal in bringing innovative projects like “The Operating System of the Home” to fruition.

BOSCH PACKAGING SYSTEMS
BVK 2000A Twin Colour Multipack
Packing of multicolour candies in a single pouch (Multi-Pack). The main challenge was to ensure that at any point during feeding there should not exist identical colour candy moving simultaneously and the design of an ejection system that would sense similar colour candies and reject them before entering the pouch. My Role: Succeeded in designing and developing a multi-feeding system as shown in the figure which consists of dual disks feeding and a common product conveying system.

MCL
Kiwifruit Conveying Line
The Compact Conveying line was designed specifically to meet the requirement of conveying Kiwifruit Cartons right at the end of the production line. The small footprint allows the various systems to be used in confined spaces where conventional conveyors won’t fit. The Challenging section of this project was to design a 3 to 1 wide merge in the Transfer station to converge products from 3 lines and outfeed into a single conveyor using a single drive. Cycle time of 60 cartons/minute. Executed the project in a timely manner without any errors using the first-time-right concept.
