Mauritz Johnson
MECHANICAL ENGINEER
Skills Overview
Mauritz began his engineering career in the design and manufacture of agricultural equipment, where he developed a strong foundation in mechanical design and production processes. He has gained experience in plastic and die cast moulding. Mauritz has successfully managed numerous engineering projects across various disciplines. Most recently, he led a comprehensive factory optimization project involving the complete redesign of the production facility layout to improve operational efficiency. This project included facility upgrades, workflow optimisation, and the implementation of new production lines. I can work independently as well as integrate seamlessly into a team.
- PROJECT ENGINEERING – worked on numerous projects in varies disciplines of engineering. From factory layouts to moulding. He is able to manage expectations throughout the project. His most recent project was to upgrade the factory facility as well as laying out new production lines to lower material travel time within the factory.
- MECHANICAL DESIGN – worked as a design engineer throughout his entire career. From designing small plastic mouled parts to heavy farming equipment used to spray orchard trees. His most recent design was a lock used in the banking industry to lock ATM’s.
- ENGINEERING DOCUMENTATION – can create necessary technical drawings for manufacturing. At previous companies he has created work instructions that are used for manufacturing and training as well FAI drawing used for inspecting incoming items.
- PRODUCT 3D MODELLING – can create conceptual designs to detailed models using CAD software. With hands on experience with laser cutting, bending, welding, milling, turning and 3D printing he is able to design accordingly to ensure manufacturability.
- JIGS – has designed numerous jigs that are used in solder labs to assist with soldering small components to jigs used for inspecting incoming goods. Mauritz has experience using plastic and metal 3D printing technologies to manufacture some of these jigs.
PERSONAL STATEMENT
I am the third generation of mechanical engineer in my family. I have always wanted to understand why things work the way they do. This is what led me to becoming an engineer. I started my career working for my dad in the family business designing crop sprayers for citrus, avocadoes, macadamia nuts, and blueberries. I have experience in sheet metal, die cat and plastic moulding, fire suppression (mining and military), and rapid prototyping designs with 3D printing. I have found that managing projects was what I enjoyed the most.
I have been studying part time for the past 5 years, so I have not had much time for hobbies, but I have found a liking to woodworking. I am family oriented and as such I like to spend time with my wife and kids.
Project Experience

Blueberry Spraying Machine
I ran the project from start to finish. I designed a small blueberry spraying machine that is hooked onto the back of a small tractor to spray the trees. This machine has a fan that was belt driven and nozzles on the side that oscillated. The machine carried 1000 litres of water in a custom designed stainless steel tank.

Cubicle Door Lock
I redesigned an existing dual lock. This lock had to be the same overall dimensions but had to be 2 separate locks that when stacked worked as a dual lock. I redesigned the lock and included the latest technology available to me at the time. The lock was launched January of 2026 and there has already been over 800 manufactured and installed across South Africa.
Factory Layout Optimisation
I completely redesigned the layout of the factory. The main products were given dedicated production lines with a flexible line used to custom work. The facility was also upgraded to include a dust free area where are production was done.
