FREEZING SOLUTIONS LTD (FSL)
Variable Retention Multipass Freezer
Collaboration with FSL and leading a team of Caliber Design engineers to design a VRM for a beef processing plant in Brazil. This new VRM was based on a previous design and modified to suit client requirements and locally available materials. My role included the reconfiguration and redesign of carton transfer equipment, movable insulated partitions, and access platforms; and reviewing designs and drawings.
9 Volt Carrybox Energizer
Developed for a niche market, the Value 9V Carrybox energizer met its manufactured cost target and exceeded its quality and performance targets.
The result of many years research into electronic control of fan forced gas burners, this flagship product featured burners and controls which retract flush into the glass surface when not in use.

Automated Bag Drop
Designed the underlying support framework for an Automated Bag Drop unit to be installed in domestic terminals in several airports in Japan. Also designed a system to transport the equipment to and around site. Integrated the Bag Drop into a collector conveyor. Collaborated with client mechanical and automation engineers and industrial design contractors to deliver a solution that could be installed at any of several sites with different topography.
Aggregate Quality Control
Prototyped, designed, built and tested an automated system for sampling and testing crushed aggregate. Responsible for the sieve cleaning (designed to comply with EN932-1 standard) and robot end effector (gripper) stations.
DHV Stage 2 Refit
Design of structural elements, piping and components, brackets and fixtures and electrical enclosures. Initially working from ship drawings and photos and, towards the end of the project when the ship arrived at Devonport Naval Base, took site measurements and worked with fabricators and contractors to determine the best solution for some of my designs. Used my prior experience in other industry sectors to propose novel solutions and in turn gained experience in shipbuilding practice and Defence Force standards.
PRODUCTION TECHNIQUES LTD
Designed and detailed various forming machines for a cereal bar production line project.
After a childhood spent pulling things apart, sometimes putting them back together, and building things … a career in engineering was inevitable! As an engineer I find that many off the shelf products, and many aspects of my house, present opportunity for some engineering to improve performance, add functionality or to address flaws in the original design.
I apply a practical, hands-on, design-for-manufacture approach; putting myself in the positions of those who will manufacture, assemble, and use my designs. I strive for continuous improvement by improving the efficiency of processes and supporting my team to work at their full potential.
I was elected to Fellow of Engineering New Zealand (formerly IPENZ) in 2019 and served on the Otago Branch and Auckland Brand committees from 2004–2012. I was Chair of Auckland Branch from 2008–2011 and continue to be involved in Engineering New Zealand activity as the Mechanical Engineering Group Chair.

Wanganui Waste Water Treatment Plant Upgrade
Designed and detailed the upper portion of a dewatered sludge silo and the structure, cone, cylinder and top section of a dried sludge silo. Worked with client supplied data in various formats to provide layout information for plant and conveyor location.
